Solar car breaks records

From Slashdot we see news about attempting the feat Jayco SunSwift III, a solar-powered vehicle. The record is trying to beat the 4,000 miles across the Australian Outback desert less than 8.5 days.

The route will begin in Sydney and finish in Perth. The team’s new car is very optimistic and expects to complete the trip in about 6 days. This optimism stems from the innovation of the machine, with an incredible optimized aerodynamic design in 80 computer labs for 3 months. The structure of the car is made of carbon fiber, and the suspension, brakes and other components using a series of batteries and power systems monitored by telemetry systems.

This is the result of years of work of several students at the University of South Wales in Sydney. Good luck!

The car does not need gasoline

From Blog of Cars and the International Auto Show in Detroit, we learned that General Motors will launch between 2010 and 2012 the first electric car to be completely independent of gas. The Chevrolet Volt will have a range of 64 miles a day with their batteries. Manufacturers claim 50% of Americans does not travel over the route a day, which would be independent of gas. A very good news for the environment.

Vehicles with solar panels

We have talked a lot about solar cars. Although many advantages of autonomy, one of the problems they have is the design that does not follow any rules of interior roominess and occupation. An alternative to this could be rechargeable electric vehicles with solar panels that did not need much area. This will be more respectful of the vehicle design and to be marketable.

We offer stunning designs for solar panels on sports cars like the Audi TT.

Volvo fight and gets his first major victory against pollution

volvo recharge

Perhaps it is a curious story, and that is if it has already become a habit to note the battery level of mobile now add another, the car battery. Indeed Volvo initiative is causing surprise and joy of all who have always longed for driving with peace of mind not be polluting the environment, then reconciling the terrible need to drive a car to move and not to give particles pollutants to the piece.

This is a model that implements Volvo considerably, and it has been somewhat famous by Chevy, Ford and Toyota, but never anything as serious as Volvo, which has even implemented a manufacturing plant called “CO2 “Free”. Determining Volvo manufacturers to create a special model that protects the environment not only reflects a “concern” but also a maximization of a strain which has not all been exploited as a commercial way, hybrids.

The Volvo Recharge has become a visually attractive car but it also promises nothing but decrease by 66% the emission of particulate pollutant type on a conventional hybrid car, which it will be too. As many readers already have to be wondering what will be the cost of such cleanup? No doubt that there is a cost, but more than acceptable, since the vehicle could be used at 100 miles per hour, with acceleration from 0-60 mph in 9 seconds or so, so that the completion cost / benefit is positive, also its consumption would be 124 miles per gallon to 150 kilometers (93 miles), “Surprised? Google will invest $ 10 million in electric cars

Here at Google we saw Irremovable turns to renewable energies, but now not only take for themselves, but they plan to invest $ 10 million in green initiatives, as announced in a press release.

Specifically they are looking to invest 500 thousand to 2 million in many initiatives that focus on electric hybrid vehicles.

The matter is in a hurry, as the dates you have set as a ceiling for stakeholders to submit their reports is 22 October this year. Sounds perfect to bet on the alternative renewable fuel, and better yet do so quickly. Do not wait to send them within two to five years output. Today, right now we need to abandon fossil fuels.

And indeed, that an economic giant like Google cares about these issues is an inducement. That is not the only, of course, another major Internet company, Yahoo, have shown interest in renewable energy.

Renault and Electric Cars

renault fluence

As of yesterday we received news that the German firm Continental will take over the development of different components for electric vehicles, which will start being sold in 2011.

Specifically, among the different pieces that we will be developed with batteries, electric motors and electronic components.

However, as we have known in this day, the renowned Renault is postulated as one of the largest mass producers of electric cars.

This was stated by the Chairman of the Renault, Carlos Ghosn, who has set out today it’s position in the French brand as it relates to the production and marketing-to large-scale of such vehicles.

Because, apparently, Renault could make one of these cars in Valladolid, provided you adhere to the different conditions that multinational raised by both government and workers. Continue Reading

Electric Hybrid Buses

In the U.S., transit systems from New York to Taipei, and from Ames, Iowa, Ann Arbor, Michigan, are increasingly incorporating hybrid buses.

However, New York has, for now, bus fleet with the largest hybrid buses that run on electricity and diesel fuel, there are about 1,000 in the five boroughs, although most is in Manhattan.

Although the initial cost is much higher than conventional diesel buses, hybrid buses produce less pollution and more fuel-saving diesel. They are quieter than the old buses, and routing is generally more comfortable. Like the hybrid taxis that have become quite common in New York, the hybrid buses have been imposed during the last decade. Continue Reading
