Japan is launching its first test and being sent to Venus Ikaros, known as the comet interplanetary accelerated by solar radiation.
Upon being released, Ikaros is a cylinder, but in space will be deployed in a square of 14 meters on each side and 20 on the diagonal. It is made of a material thinner than human hair and has solar cells that reflect solar radiation back to the sun, this produces a microscopic forces that will “fuel” from the kite.
Maybe one day we can travel through space without the need of fuel, simply by using solar radiation to propel.
What do you think?
